Acadia Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, was privileged to honor the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1058, as part of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration recently. The DAR and VVA were designated Commemorative Partners. This commemoration recognizes, honors and thanks all who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces from Nov, 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975. The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 established March 29 as a national holiday joining Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day among others.
The ceremony was held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, in Jennings during the VVA Chapter 1058 meeting. Each veteran was awarded a Vietnam Veterans lapel pin. The chapter was awarded the Commemorative Flag. Among those participating in the event were, seated, Webb Gotte; standing from left, Vickie Besse, Philip Dupé, Katherine Oliver, George Conner, Shelton Hunt, Larry Guidry, Desiree Casey, George Fox and Eurella Cahanin.

The Iota Library hosted LEGO Hour Monday with a host of children aged 6 and over turning out to create cool LEGO designs. The Acadia Parish Library System has a number of upcoming events planned, including a Teen Art Club session at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Crowley Library. Supplies will be provided but teens are invited to bring their own supplies and sketchbooks if desired. No experience is required. A full slate of activities also is on tap at library branches across the parish during February.
