The Crowley Garden Club registered an oak tree in Church Point in recognition of Louisiana Arbor Day, Jan 20. Pictured are Arborist Bob Thibodeaux and Crowley Garden Club members Sissy Gall and Georgie Petitjean. The tree, located on the corner of South Horecky Street and East Roy Alley, was registered with the Louisiana Live Oak Society. The tree’s girth measured 18 feet and 9 inches, making it a “centurion.” The tree is estimated to be approximately 150 years old. In honor of the current mayor, the group named the tree “Ryan ‘Spanky’ Meche.” Anyone wishing to see the register of live oaks in Louisiana may do so at the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs’ site, under Live Oak Society at www.lgcfinc.org.
