CROWLEY – Playing in honor of Madelyn Daigle, six-year-old daughter of ND basketball coach Duke and Allison Daigle who is undergoing chemo treatments for cancer, the Notre Dame Lady Pios showed up and showed out Monday.
The Lady Pios had 13 players hit safely and seven of their 14 hits went for extra bases in a 16-1 thrashing of the Crowley Ladies at William Fats Leger Memorial Field.
The victory was the sixth straight for the Lady Pios, who improved to 20-3.
The Ladies fell to 6-12 overall.
The Lady Pios set the tone in the opening frame by scoring eight runs on four hits and one walk as well as three Crowley errors.
Macey Freed had the big blow of the inning, a two-run triple to right field.
Ellie Bourgeois added an RBI double, Gabby Boudreaux and Aly Teare each singled in a run and Keleigh Spell picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly during the outburst.
The Ladies scored their only run in the top of the second inning when Spiritual Guidry led off the frame with a single and eventually crossed the plate on a two-out error off the bat of Zoe Giles.
The hosts answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Annabelle Pitts and an error.
Lillian Guidry added a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Paisley Vincent logged an RBI single to push the Lady Pios lead to 12-1.
The hosts put the game away one inning later on a pair of two-run doubles by Callie Maitre and Boudreaux.
Bailee Royer picked up the victory in the circle after limiting the Ladies to just two hits. She struck out five in four innings.
Erika Hebert suffered the loss after allowing 16 runs, only nine earned, on 14 hits and two walks. She struck out one.
Guidry and Sydnie Schexnayder each had a single for the Ladies.
Boudreaux was the offensive leader for the Lady Pios with two hits, including a double and three RBI.
Maitre followed with a double and two RBI, Freed had a triple and two RBI and Spell, Pitts and Bourgeois each had a double and one RBI.
In addition, Vincent and Teare each singled and drove in one run, Emily Abshire logged a double, Valerie Brown, Lydia Brown, Madaline Johnson and Anna Francis each had a single and Lillian Guidry had an RBI.
The Lady Pios and the CHS Ladies will both be in action again today.
The Lady Pios will host DeQuincy at 5 p.m. in a pivotal District 5-2A matchup.
The Ladies will also be at home in a 4:30 p.m. non-district contest against Lacassine.

Bears win ninth powerlifting state title

LAFAYETTE – Wyatt Daigle and Damarion Guy each claimed individual state titles Saturday to help lead the Church Point Bears to the Division III state powerlifting championship at the Cajundome.
