THE POST-SIGNAL / Claudette Olivier
The Sabine Pass Lighthouse, located in the far southwest corner of Cameron Parish along the Sabine River between Louisiana and Texas, was first lit in 1857. The lighthouse, which is now cut off from the mainland, has survived many hurricanes, including an 1886 hurricane that destroyed the keeper’s house, a 1915 hurricane that swept away all the outbuildings, wharf and walkways, and hurricanes Audrey, Rita, Ike, Laura and Delta.
