Scott man sentenced for possession of child porn
A Scott man has been sentenced in federal court for possession of child pornography.
Kevin James Forestier Jr., 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert R. Summerhays to 34 months in prison followed by 6 years of supervised release, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook.
Forestier will also be required to register as a sex offender.
In July 2018, law enforcement agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crime Unit received a Cybertip report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) indicating a user had uploaded images containing child pornography through the internet to an account.
An investigation revealed that Forestier was the suspected user and, on Sept. 11, 2018, law enforcement agents obtained a search warrant for his residence and cellular phone.
Agents discovered child pornography containing images of a prepubescent minor who had not attained the age of 12 on Forestier’s cell phone.
Forestier admitted that he had, in fact, uploaded the images to his phone from the internet.
Forestier pleaded guilty to the charge on Oct. 22, 2019.
At the time of his arrest, Forestier was a part-time supplemental band director for the parish, according to LPSS. He was previously working at Acadiana High.
The Department of Homeland Security – Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. Vermaelen prosecuted the case.
