Rice Festival ‘Safe Zone’ announced

The Crowley Optimist Club, the Rice Festival Association and the Crowley Police Department have finalized plans for the missing child program being implemented for the International Rice Festival next weekend.
Shirley Bratton, Crowley Optimist Club member, announced that the “Safe Zone” booth will be located at the corner of North Parkerson Avenue and Second Street, directly in front of the Home Bank building.
Parents who want to enroll their children in the program can do so at that location.
ID bracelets for the children will match a number on a sign-up sheet, which will include the child’s guardian contact information.
If a child is lost, parents should return to the Optimist Club’s booth and wait for the police to radio the child’s ID number. When found, the child will be returned to the booth by a police officer.
If a lost child is found, the Crowley Police Department urges that civilian to bring the child to the closest police officer so the child can be safely returned to the proper guardians. If an officer cannot be found, any lost child can also be dropped off at the Police Department located on the corner of Fifth Street and Avenue F. The department will have officers inside during the festival.
Parents are urged to take advantage of the child ID service offered by the Optimist Club of Crowley.
