Based on the number of parade-goers at the 2017 Carnival d’Acadie event, last year’s festival has been called “the best ever.”
Carnival d’Acadie schedule finalized
The 2018 Carnival d’Acadie celebration will once again be held at the Crowley Enterprise Center on Mardi Gras day, Feb. 13.
Activities will get underway at 11 a.m. with Dustin Sonnier and the Wanted performing until 1 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m. Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin’ Cajuns will take the stage, breaking at 2:30 for the annual Mardi Gras parade, then resuming their entertainment from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Musical entertainment will wrap up with Krossfyre from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Attendees are invited to catch plenty of Mardi Gras beads and other trinkets during the 18th annual Grand Carnival Parade.
The procession begins at Front Street and travels north to the Court Circle. The parade will continue around the courthouse and travel south on Parkerson Avenue to return to the carnival festivities.
Registration for the Mardi Gras Costume Contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the judging to be held at 1 p.m.
As always, an assortment of carnival rides will be available beginning Monday night, Feb. 12 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Rides also will be open on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
A $15 armband special is being offered for each day.
Food and refreshments will be sold by local and commercial vendors. No ice chests will be allowed on the carnival grounds and attendees are urged to leave their pets at home.
