Velma Arceneaux Doucet

Rayne - Funeral services wree held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Velma Arceneaux Doucet, 95, who died Thursday Aug. 22, 2024, at The Ellington Nursing Home in Rayne.
Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne.
Very Rev. Brent L. Smith VF, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Mrs. Velma was a native and life long resident of Rayne. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Velma’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She never met a stranger and loved visiting with people. Some of her most precious moments were spent traveling with family and friends making wonderful memories.
She was an inspiration to many (many much younger) with her dedication to exercising. She made many friends over the 35 years she faithfully worked out at the health clubs. She will be remembered for her tenacious spirit, fun loving character and dedication to her family. She was a special person and will be missed by all.
Survivors include daughters, Susan and spouse John “Bubba” Leonards, and Elizabeth D. “Beth” Ortis; her son, Brian and spouse Cindy Cradeur Doucet; six grandchildren, Dawn Doucet (Bill Grey), Josh Doucet, Marcus Doucet, Ashlyn Doucet, Benjamin Leonards (Jessica) and Brittany N. Moreau; eight great-grandchildren Jude Doucet, Karcyn Doucet, Ameily Doucet, Ian Doucet, Barrett Doucet, Adelyn Doucet, John Luke Leonards and Rhett Leonards.
She was preceded in death by husband, Lawrence “Ted” Doucet; parents, Claude and Edna Harmon Arceneaux; sister, Geneva Bellard; and brothers, Luther “Hawk” Arceneaux and Norman “Slim” Arceneaux.
Pallbearers were John Luke Leonards, Benjamin Leonards, James Leonards, Marcus Doucet, Lamar Bellard and Ian Doucet.
Honorary pallbearers were John Leonards, Rhett Leonards, Anthony Arceneaux, James Arceneaux and Josh Doucet.
A Rosary was prayed at 11 a.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mark Dawson, the nurses and staff of The Ellington and Lamm Family Care.
Visitation was observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Tuesday Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
