John O. Istre Sr.

MERMENTAU - A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau for John O. Istre Sr., 88, who passed away Sept. 1, 2024.
Visitation was held Wednesday from 11 a.m.to 9 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings. A rosary was prayed at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed Thursday at 8 a.,m. to the time of the Mass.
John was a proud Army Veteran. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rena Istre; daughter, Anna Duclion (Joseph); 10 grandchildren, Jason Duclion, Nichole Duhon, Darren Istre, Shawntel Istre, Ryan Istre, Alexander Davis, Alexis Istre, Dexter Istre, Derrick Istre and Steven Istre; numerous great-grandchildren: daughters-in--law Patricia Istre and Shelia Istre
He is preceded in death by his parents, Odillion and Bertha Istre; two sons, John O. Istre Jr. and Wallace J. Istre; two grandchildren, Sonia Duclion and Nicholas Istre; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and nine sisters.
Pallbearers were Jason Duclion, Joseph Duclion, Blake Daigle, Ryan Istre, Darren Istre and J.R. Clement.
