Cecelia Elizabeth Freeman
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Cecelia Elizabeth Freeman, 84, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley.
Father Mark Odoguje, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, officiated the service.
Visiting hours were held Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 to 10:50 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church and a Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
Cecelia was born Oct. 26, 1939, in Crowley. She was a lifelong member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Cecelia faithfully served in many capacities for over the last 40 plus years of her life. She attended Mass every day and all three weekend Masses where she made the proper arrangements before and after Mass.
Cecelia cleaned and cared for all the altar cloths and linens. She taught Religious Education, especially the Sacramental Class of Holy Communion. She taught RCIA classes for adults and assisted in the preparation of the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Cecelia assisted bereaved families in the preparation of the Funeral Mass. She brought Holy Communion to the sick and shut-ins at their homes and at Acadia General Hospital and nursing homes in Crowley.
She was a member and full participant of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Auxiliary Court #51, Altar Society, St. Joseph Society, Legion of Mary and many other groups and ministries at St. Theresa.
Cecilia is survived by her son, Dammon Freeman (Linda) of Lafayette; her four siblings, John Freeman (Carolyn) of Mansfield, Elsie Bazile (Jerome) of Memphis, Tennessee, Connie Freeman of Crowley, and Andrew Freeman (Christine) of Rayne; her three grandchildren, Nicholas Baker, Darrell Freeman Jr. and Wilkins Freeman; her three great-grandchildren, Jamal Baker, Sasha Baker and Darrell Freeman III; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lurine and Sebastian Sellers Freeman; her children, Darrell Freeman and Daphine Freeman; as well as her siblings, Margaret Freeman, Sebastian “Bass” Freeman and Mike Freeman.
