Carl J. Hanks
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Carl Johnson Hanks, age 89, who passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, at Maison de Lafayette.
The family had requested that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Location on Friday, Aug. 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continue on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary was recited on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
The Very Reverend Chester C. Arceneaux, V.F., conducted the funeral services.
Interment was in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lafayette, laid to rest with his beloved Maryetta.
Survivors include his daughter, Julie Hanks Inzerella and husband Kirk; his sons, Damon Hanks and Bryan Hanks and wife Michelle; two sisters, Joicy Sterling and Gilderie “PeeWee” Armentor; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maryetta Martin Hanks; parents, Olive Quebedeaux Hanks and Guilliame Hanks; five sisters, Ruby Saltzman, Nancy Hanks, Sadie Redlich, Roberta John and Alice Desormeaux; and one brother, Earl Hanks.
Born in Morse, on Nov. 19, 1935, and raised in Crowley, Carl was a longtime resident of Lafayette.
A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he worked as a Parts Salesman with Hub City Ford for 49 years and also with Evangeline Downs for 30 years.
A graduate of Crowley High School, he attended SLI and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Carl enjoyed cooking favorite meals for family and friends, cheering on his football teams, and cherishing time with those he loved most, especially his grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Caleb Inzerella, Trey Colomb, Allan Lanphier, Willard Sterling Jr., Robert John Jr. and Robert Mahtook Jr.
The family of Mr. Hanks extends their heartfelt appreciation to his caretakers and providers, especially Linda Hebert, Ungelita Bonnet, Dominique Knatt, Angela Hebert and Naomi Gaubert.
