Margaret Funk Leonards
Roberts Cove - Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove for Margaret Funk Leonards, 94, who passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at The Acadia Assisted Living in Crowley.
Interment was in St. Leo IV Catholic Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
Rev. Mitchell Guidry, pastor of St. Leo IV Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Margaret Funk Leonards was born on July 14, 1930, in New Orleans. Margaret attended nursing school at Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School in Baton Rouge. She went on to be a tenacious, hardworking nurse and nursing teacher in Louisiana and Mississippi.
She retired from nursing when she married Benno Joseph Leonards in 1974 and became a mother to his two children. She was known by her family and friends to be an excellent cook and baker, a quick wit, and a faithful Catholic.
Margaret is survived by her two children, Paul (Wynelle) Leonards of Canton, Mississippi, and Anne (Brian) Cagle of Rayne; her grandchildren, Anna Morgan Leonards (Adam Griego), Lauren Christine Leonards, Sam Cagle, and Whit Cagle; and one great-grandchild, Theodore Griego.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benno Joseph Leonards; her parents, Eugene John Funk and Marguerite Bourgeois; her three brothers, John Funk, Charles Funk and Guy Funk; and her granddaughter’s fiancé, Wade Vollmer.
A Rosary was prayed Sunday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
Visitation was observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Sunday, March 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
