Wonda Wilson George

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Wonda George.
Wonda Wilson George was born on Nov. 12, 1933, in Crowley, to the late Sid Wilson Sr. and Cecilia Paul Wilson. She departed this life on Jan. 6, 2025, at Ochsner Acadia General Hospital in Crowley at the age of 91.
Wonda received her early education at St. Theresa Catholic School, attending from first through eighth grade. She went on to graduate from Crowley Industrial High School and Delta Business School. In September 1950, at age 17, Wonda began working at St. Theresa Catholic School as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher under the supervision of Josephite Father William Morrissey and the Holy Spirit Sisters.
Alongside her teaching, Wonda took on numerous responsibilities at St. Theresa Catholic Church: she counted collections, maintained records, and performed other administrative duties.
After the school closed in 1971, Wonda transitioned to working full time in the church office. When a cook could not return to prepare the evening meal, Wonda volunteered to fill that role. From then on, she served faithfully full-time for 50 years as the church receptionist, cook, and housekeeper until retiring in 2000. She then only worked once a week for 19 more years, making it a total of 69 years of being a faithful servant.
In recognition of her selfless service, Wonda received the Martin Luther King Award from St. Theresa’s in 1987. In 2001, the City of Crowley honored her with an official proclamation declaring November 12th as “Wonda George Day.”
Over the years, she held numerous leadership positions and participated in various organizations, including Proclaimer of the Word, Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, president of the Finance Committee, member of The Sick and Shut -In Committee, the Bazaar Committee, the St. Michael / St. Theresa’s School Board, and the Election Committee — on which she served for over 40 years.
Wonda was united in marriage to Norris George Sr. until he was called home in 1999. Together, they had eight children, six of whom survive: Frankie George Anderson, Althea George, Alana George, Mark George Sr. (Kim), Paul George (Kizzy), and Bernard George (Michelle), all of Crowley; and two granddaughters she raised as her own, Farrah George of Crowley and Shawanna George of Lafayette.
Wonda is also survived by two sisters, Marie Wilson of Baton Rouge and Cheryl Wilson of Lake Charles; five brothers, Hilary Wilson of Crowley; Warren Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Andrew Wilson of Santa Ana, California, Andrus Wilson of Stockton, California, and Gregory Wilson of Alexandria; 32 grandchildren; 108 great-grandchildren; 80 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sid Wilson Sr. and Cecilia Paul Wilson; her son, Norris George Jr.; her daughter, Carlita Ann George; and her grandchildren, Lucius George, Perry Davis Jr., Brianna Kennedy, Shaniqua Anderson, and Daylon Chapman.
Wonda’s life was a testament to devotion, education, and service. Her unwavering commitment to St. Theresa Catholic Church and her community touched countless lives over the span of nearly seven decades. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family, friends, and all those who were blessed to know her.
