Father Korey LaVergne, left, pastor, of St. Edward’s Church in Richard, delivers the Homily during the annual Mass for Charlene Richard, “The Little Cajun Saint.” August 11 marked the 62nd anniversary of the young girl’s passing from acute lymphatic leukemia. At right, John Dale Richard, brother of the late Charlene Richard, gives the Readings during the Mass. Family, friends and the faithful gather at the church each year, with the exception of last year when the event was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, in hopes that one day miracles attributed to Richards’s prayer intercession will be validated by the Church in order to make her a saint.
