Simone Catherine Habetz weds Evan Alexander Doucet

LAFAYETTE - The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist was the setting on October 26, 2019, for a Nuptial Mass uniting in marriage Simone Catherine Habetz and Evan Alexander Doucet, both of Rayne. The seven o’clock evening ceremony was officiated by Fr. Kevin Bordelon.
The bride is the daughter of Damian Charles Habetz and Dinah Libby Habetz of Roberts Cove. Her grandparents are Lawrence and Enola Libby of Crowley and Phillip and Dolores Habetz of Roberts Cove.
Simone is a graduate of St. Michael Catholic Elementary, Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, and attained a bachelor’s degree in nursing from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is currently employed as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at Lafayette General Medical Center and on the progressive care unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.
The groom is the son of Jason Todd Doucet of Rayne and Shelby Doucet Fuderer of Katy, Texas. His grandparents are Richard and Helen Doucet of Rayne and Roger and Betty Doucet, also of Rayne.
Evan is a graduate of Rayne Catholic Elementary, Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and attained an associate’s degree in applied science from Louisiana State University at Eunice. He received a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is currently employed as a service engineer for Altec, Inc, in Broussard.
Providing musical selections for the ceremony were trumpeter Will Green and organist Tom Neil.
Scripture readers were Debbie Schultz and Valerie Keaton and Gifts were offered by Celeste Lalande, bride’s godmother; Michael Libby, bride’s godfather; and Justin Doucet, groom’s godfather.
Traditional items selected by the bride for her wedding day was her great-great-grandmother’s handkerchief was something old, her bridal ensemble was something new, her mother’s rosary as something borrowed and her garter was something blue.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a classic silk duponi ball gown designed by Justin Alexander with a full gathered skirt and packets. An alencon lace long sleeve topper designed by Martina Liana was adhered to the sweetheart ball gown that featured a V-neckline and fabric-covered buttons that lined the ends of the sleeves and back. The topper was finished with a beautifully beaded crystal and pearl belt at the waistline. Her custom-designed, handmade veil, created by Maureen Benoit, was of cathedral in length and constructed of illusion tulle and edged with French alencon beaded lace.
Attending the bride as matron of honor was Claire Gatte, cousin and best friend. Maid of honor was Jaclyn Lalande, also a cousin and best friend.
Bridesmaids were Danielle Habetz, sister-in-law; Sabra Ramour, close college friend; Victoria Valdetero, cousin-in-law; and friends Caroline Beslin, Samatha Spallino and Julie Reggie.
Junior bridesmaids were Marlei and Parker Fuderer, sisters of the groom.
Bridal attendants each wore a full-length dress of blush chiffon designed with flutter sleeves and self-fabric covered buttons that lined the back of the dress.
Attending the groom as best men were Philip Leonards, best friend, and Trey Cramer, best friend and cousin.
Groomsmen were Lance Habetz, brother of the bride; Andrew Veldetero, cousin and friend; Dakota Hebert, cousin and friend; and friends Clint Reiners, Phillip Reiners and Jacob Zaunbrecher.
Serving as ushers were Will Mahaffey and Robert Walton, friends of the couple.
Little flower girls were Lillian Fuderer, sister of the groom, and Charlotte Keaton, godchild of the bride.
Ring bearer was William Habetz, nephew of the bride.
For her daughter’s wedding, the mother of the bride, Dinah Libby Habetz wore a handmade custom-design A-line dress with an off-the-shoulder styling, beaded bodice and bridal satin skirt. She carried a nosegay arrangement of white garden and spray roses.
The groom’s mother, Shelby Doucet Fuderer selected a floor-length dress of plum fabric and metallic silver designed with capped sleeves and rounded neckline. She also carried a nosegay arrangement of white garden and spray roses.
Immediately following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds were honored during a reception held at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard Art Museum, also know as A. Hayes Town House, in Lafayette on the campus of The University of Lafayette.
The reception area was decorated with brass candlesticks, antique mirrors for signage and assortment of white flowers on each table. The outdoor plaza area was noted with hanging globe lights. The interior of the A. Hayes Town House was noted with an heirloom bar and eucalyptus swags on fireplace mantles. The food and cake room were highlighted with brass mirrors and candlesticks.
The bride’s cake, mounted on an ornate brass cake plateau, was a three-tier round confection of ivory buttercream and Alencon lace piping and matching flower clusters.
The groom’s cake, a traditional German chocolate confection, was a life-size pirou filled with crawfish, corn and potatoes resting on a wooden board.
Guests were in attendance of the wedding from Texas, Mississippi, Ohio and numerous points of Louisiana.
Following a wedding trip including a train trip to Scottland, Amsterdam, Switzerland and Germany, the couple has made their home in Rayne.
Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held October 25, 2018, at Abacus Banquets and Receptions in Lafayette.
