Lena DeFreese Wilson

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Guidry Funeral Home, Church Point for Lena DeFreese Wilson, 93.
Reverend Wayne Howington conducted the services with interment following in the United Methodist Cemetery in Church Point.
Lena DeFreese Wilson was born in Ruston on May 23, 1916. She graduated from La Tech in 1936 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics, took a teaching position in Church Point and married Walter Allen Wilson on July 3,1938.
Lena had the pleasure of teaching many young ladies the necessary elements for establishing a home, such as cooking, sewing and management of resources.
To know Lena was to love her. She was sharp as a tack at playing Scrabble and card games with her children, grandchildren and friends. With a very compassionate heart eager and willing to help others along their road of life, she was Jesus’ hand extended to a hurting world.
Lena was an active member of Church Point United Methodist Church where she served as a leader in the women’s group. She worked with members of the church to meet needs in the community.
MaMa graciously took time with her four grandchildren sharing with them the values of working together, sewing, cooking and crafts. Her godly example was a tremendous source of strength for them.
In 2004, she sold her home in Church Point and went to an assisted living facility in Conroe, Texas, near her youngest son where she resided until 2007, when her condition required more care. She then went to a nursing home where she resided until she was called Home to be with Jesus on January 14, 2010.
Preceding Lena in death were her parents, Joseph Eli DeFreese and Ida Harrison DeFreese, and her husband, Walter Allen Wilson, Sr.
Lena is survived by two sons, Walter Allen Wilson, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Hemphill, Texas, and Ardis Wilson and his wife Betty of Conroe, Texas; four grandchildren, Kevin Wilson, Deborah Fletcher, Nancy Paffie and Shon Warren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
